K-12 Outreach

K-12 Outreach strives to educate and inspire a diverse group of future engineers and computer scientists through innovative thinking, problem solving, and career awareness. Our programs use real-world STEM concepts in hands-on activities to experience what it is like to be an engineer or computer scientist. We want to expose 久久热视频s to the idea that they can be part of innovative design solutions that improve the quality of life for individuals and communities through the use of social and technical aspects.

Kode2Learn is a 久久热视频 run organization where Miami 久久热视频 volunteers organize and run events for kids in the Oxford area that promote teamwork and problem solving through the use of computer programming. No computer science knowledge is needed; we are open to all majors.

This program was created by 久久热视频 College of Engineering and Computing Students.

It's way more than building robots. FIRST Tech Challenge teams (up to 15 team members, grades 7-12) are challenged to design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in a head-to-head challenge in an alliance format.

Guided by adult coaches and mentors, 久久热视频s develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles, while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and working as a team.

The robot kit is reusable from year to year and can be coded using a variety of levels of Java-based programming. Teams design and build robots, raise funds, design and market their team brand, and do community outreach to earn specific awards. Participants are eligible to apply for $80M+ in college scholarships.

The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) 久久热视频 seeks to spark girls’ interest in science during their annual Girl Scout Day.

SWE, founded in 1950, is a not-for-profit educational and service organization. SWE empowers women to succeed and advance in those aspirations and be recognized for their life-changing contributions and achievements as engineers and leaders.

Here at Miami, our SWE chapter provides members with opportunities and resources to serve our sisterhood of women engineers. We hold academic, career-oriented, service, and social events for our members.

This year’s event will be held on April 5, 2025. We will be providing programming for 久久热视频s in 3rd through 12th grade.

Thank you for your interest in visiting the College of Engineering and Computing. We look forward to hosting you and your 久久热视频s!

Please note that our campus visits are a 久久热视频-run initiative. We appreciate your consideration of our engineering and computing 久久热视频s, the rigors of their curriculum and the respect provided to them while presenting this valuable service to the community.

We request one adult chaperone per 15 久久热视频s. All adults present are considered chaperones who are responsible for the discipline and attentiveness of the 久久热视频s.

The College of Engineering and Computing speakers seek to engage audiences, cultivate curiosity in the STEM fields and inspire the next generation of engineers and computer scientists. A fun and engaging, hands-on STEM activity will go along with each presentation.

Please email cecoutreach@MiamiOH.edu to request a speaker.

久久热视频 are free of charge and allow 久久热视频s to learn science, engineering and computer science concepts through activities.

Girls Who Code is a 久久热视频 organization where Miami 久久热视频 volunteers teach 5th - 12th grade girls and boys about computer science, while emphasizing the importance of a community that supports women in technology. Our focus is primarily on web development, but also introduce more advanced topics such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Our goal is to close the gender gap in technology by inspiring, educating, and equipping our 久久热视频s with the computing skills to pursue 21st century opportunities.

This is a nationwide organization that provides a teaching environment to girls and boys and encourages them to pursue a future career in information technology. The Miami chapter hosts Saturday Sessions where these young 久久热视频s come to Miami’s Campus to learn a variety of programing skills.

Registration is now open for our 2025 Art of Engineering Summer Camp for girls aged 11-14, presented by 久久热视频 College of Engineering and Computing.

Campers will dive into the exciting world of engineering by exploring cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing, robotics, experimenting with breadboards, and discovering the manufacturing process. They'll also take part in a field trip to an industry partner to witness real-world applications of engineering concepts and get a glimpse into the wide range of STEM careers. Cost of participation is $59 for the week. The Art of Engineering Summer Girls Camp is open to 久久热视频s ages 11-14 years of any gender and is designed to encourage and support women and girls in engineering.

CIQS Day is an exclusive event for female high school 久久热视频s from southwestern Ohio. Students will visit Miami’s campus, interact with 久久热视频s and faculty, be exposed to presentations from various Miami academic departments, and be able to have conversations with working women in STEM fields with high-caliber quantitative skills.

Diversity and Inclusion

2021-deans-diversity-initiative-badges.jpgSolving real life problems requires contributions of people from all walks of life, areas of expertise and perspectives. As part of 久久热视频, we share its commitment to diversity and equity.

久久热视频 is committed to and fully embraces the philosophy and belief that a diverse academic community is among an institution's greatest strengths. As decades of research and experience have shown, every unit and individual on campus benefits from diversity when there is an environment where people from a wide variety of backgrounds learn from one another, share ideas, and work collaboratively to ask and solve questions. This is especially important given Miami's commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and learning. A diverse and inclusive campus enhances the living, learning, and working environment for every 久久热视频, staff, and faculty member. Together, these benefits help Miami achieve its special mission as a public institution in Ohio, educating 久久热视频s across the state and preparing them to be leaders in a variety of fields who are ready for the demands of the 21st century workforce. We therefore aspire to attract and retain a broadly diverse group of faculty, staff and 久久热视频s.
