Functions

The functions of the Faculty Research Committee are to promote research and scholarship at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ by advocating policies and procedures that strengthen initiatives to increase the quality and visibility of faculty research accomplishments; to advise the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship on matters of policy and implementation affecting research at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ, and on other matters which the Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship may bring to the Committee for advice and counsel; and to evaluate proposals for summer research grants, research assistantships, and other grants in support of research, according to the policies and procedures contained in the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ Policy and Information Manual. The Committee shall report regularly to University Senate.

Composition

• Ten (10) faculty members, one of whom shall serve as the Chair of the Committee and at least one of whom shall be a member of University Senate.
  • The following disciplinary groupings shall each be represented by three (3) faculty members:
    • Applied and natural sciences.
    • Business, education, and social sciences.
    • Humanities and creative arts.
  • Three (3) faculty alternates. The following disciplinary groups shall each be represented by one (1) alternate:
    • Applied and natural sciences.
    • Business, education, and social sciences.
    • Humanities and creative arts.
• Two (2) ex officio nonvoting members:
  • The Dean of the Graduate School.
  • Representative from the Office for the Advancement of Research and Scholarship to be appointed by the Associate Provost for Research and Scholarship or his/her designee.

The Chair of the Committee and the chairs of the subcommittees shall be tenured. The Chair will oversee the work of the Committee; and will oversee the work of the subcommittees; and will not be eligible to serve on a subcommittee.
