EHS ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs and faculty visit Statehouse to discuss education, health, and community needs

On March 26th, a group of 14 EHS ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵs, faculty, and staff joined ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈÊÓƵ's Office of ASPIRE and Government Relations Network at the Ohio Statehouse for their annual Alternative Spring Break Leadership and Advocacy Conference. Participants had the opportunity to meet with state legislators and legislative staff to share information about the value of their Miami experience as well as the critical need for school psychologists; TEACh Cincinnati – a grow-your-own teacher pipeline program; and the importance of dietetics and nutrition. Furthermore, the EHS teams were able to learn from experts from state departments, including the Ohio Department of Higher Education, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and the Ohio Department of Children and Youth. The day culminated with a networking reception in the Statehouse, attended by 75+ alumni, legislative staff, and state legislators, where further discussions about EHS programs, including collaborations in the City of Cincinnati, occurred. Overall, the Statehouse advocacy day was filled with sharing EHS workforce training and development initiatives, promoting higher education in Ohio, and inspiring conversations about how we can collectively work to improve our communities.
